I have tried both a fresh install using the stable repositories, and as
you suggested, an install of the unstable branch followed by a reinstall
(downgrade?) of the main Oscar packages using the stable repo. I end up
with the same error as before.

Please can you confirm which versions of the following packages are
installed, and if you have time, can you remember the exact steps you
took to bootstrap successfully.

oscar-6.0.5-1
oscar-base-6.0.5-1
oscar-base-client-6.0.5-1
oscar-base-scripts-6.0.5-1
oscar-base-server-6.0.5-1
systeminstaller-oscar-2.4.10-1
systeminstaller-oscar-x11-2.4.10-1
opkg-sis-4.0.6-1
opkg-sis-client-4.0.6-1
opkg-sis-server-4.0.6-1

Regards
Steve.
