I had tried that to no avail. Trying to go back to SL 5.3, also no luck. The fix was to just use the unstable version. The database created fine, I could have gone back to stable 6.0.5 at this point but decided not to. I have created an image successfully, but only with Scientific Linux (SL) 5.4 SL 5.5 seems to have some repo issues, and I think that is a SL 5.5 problem not oscar.
