There are plenty of "real" open source projects that respond to newcomer confusion with patience, kindness, and instruction with regard to meta skills. Just this morning at PyCon I had a great conversation with another professional open source developer & educator about how hard it is to know what you don't know, and how to help newcomers "unstick themselves". You're reading ignorance as laziness and/or entitlement, but I see it (most of the time) as unfamiliarity with tools and culture. Please stop treating open source as a monolith.
