 ERP is seriously into business. As u cleared this point for me, it is 
perhaps the only point why i am looking into Java more.
But we have implemented JSR223 scripting capability into ADempiere 
(contribution from our Latinos) it can now talk to Python snips. We can 
still be innovative.

Also the focus is going into Business Intelligence, again serious 
business but with lots of Flex. Btw have you checked out JavaFx?
