Not that we at the “server side technology decision” phase, but .NET is easier for people to host as lots of places host .NET cheap (e.g. I use discountasp.net), I personally prefer java for server side components but its harder to host.

Will we get another list setup to discuss this project so we don’t clutter the general osflash list too much with a more specialized project ?

Excellent Grant !

Right now, I think one place that's been suggested before to start in, is sending in the letter to MM officially before we consider dealing with reproducing RTMP.

Now, in saying that, I read on that one blog about VCS and how they're able to connect using NetStream object. So, I'm hopeful that there's a way to do it without reproducing RTMP.  But I have a feeling that their spoofing packets or something to trick NetConnection (which requires and RTMP URI to work) - how else can you get the player to play ball?

anyway, we're on our way.  Someone's gotta step and start this thing off, hence tthe call to arms ;)

Thanks Grant!

I've been doing java for 9 years, C++ for about 15 and C# for about 1 year… so if this gets serious let me know and I'll help out.  I'm a software architect full time, mainly J2EE applications, I can tell you now either JBOSS or Spring would be good starting points for any development project.

Ok, that's it, I'm not a C++/C#/Java guy at all, but I know plenty of guys who are.  I've used Flash Comm extensively, so I'm pretty familar with what it does /doesn't do etc.

I'm a pretty decent project manager, so, If everyone thinks its a good starting point, I'll start the project, start head hunting talent for a team and get the ball rolling.

What say you? anyone want to co-manage this?  anyone with Java experience on the backend would be a great help ;)  (ummm Chris?)

Do we have the talent here to pull it off?
