I would argue that maybe Nicolas' choice of language (OCAML) may have contributed to the lack of maintainers, but I don't know the facts about OCAML so I can't make that point too seriously. One of the biggest problems I see with "the new language" is just that .. who will help Nicolas maintain it? Who will maintain it when Nicolas moves on? Not that I am criticising Nicolas personally, I don't mean that at all. The variety of developers in the Flash community is what makes it so dynamic and organic. I simply mean that OCAML isn't a language used by the majority of developers :) I've started looking into what it might take to put a compiler together, and I have played with a few language/lexical scanners and parsers and I have a fair idea of what to do. The only things I don't have are the knowledge of all the nuances and caveats of SWF and ActionScript at the VM level, or time to put any /serious/ effort into it. In truth I'm sitting waiting for someone else to do something radical. If nothing happens by the time I get something workable then I'll probably release it for everyone to poke at and decide what to do. Disclaimer: that was *NOT* a "hey, I'm writing an AS3 compiler!" announcement ;-) _______________________________________________ osflash mailing list [email protected] http://osflash.org/mailman/listinfo/osflash_osflash.org
