Hey osflashers! Yet another person with an opinion about the new design :) and usability...
1 Like it but it's definitely missing some refinement. But ok, that's just personal opinion and it's not ready yet. Just don't take the fun part out of it! 2 The problem that I would like to address is the font-size :) Usability my ... No, just kidding, but the font-size is too big. Ok I see that the font-sizes are relative in the stylesheet so that's ok. (so users can change it themselves with <crtl-scrollmouse>, although some texts dont scale correct..) Now suppose someone likes in general bigger font-sizes. He sets his preferences in his browser on big fonts, but coming to osflash where the fonts are already really big, they will be huge! So the user has to take an action to change the size back to normal big. That is not usabilty... And if someone uses the normal size font preference in his browser he probably can live with the 95% of the websites who use a font-size of 11 or 12 px, so why bothering making them bigger for them? Right now I can read the headers while sitting on the couch while computer on the other side of the room, nice, but needed? 3 Also this designers thing about making the site always fixed width bothers me. Mostly it is only for design reasons. Looking at the audience of the site is needed. Readabilty? If I find the text to width I change the size of my browser. Comón! This is a technical site i think i can convince anybody that each user who comes here knows how to resize his browser if he finds the text too width. But the opposite cannot be done now. So a fixed width is less usable here in my opinion. I like as much info on my screen as possible, I recently bought a widescreen I'd like to use it... :) Anyway, maybe these are points that can be addressed as the site is evolving to the new design. I think the design looks better. And yes the font size is not big, it's perfect. I'm not a designer(so won't comment on asthetics) and when visiting developer sites, I always look for comfort and so a bigger font size is always better. I think that the diff between a normal website and a website whose primary viewer is website designer or developer is that we sit on computers almost all the time, so site comfort should be a major issue to condsider. And yes, the site and you guys rock.
