I've used this one before, but for some reason it didn't record my
mic one time, so I tried Ardour ( www.ardour.org ) with
Jack ( http://jackit.sourceforge.net/ ). Way better than audacity,
which is allright for simple projects. Now I do all my audio work
with Ardour).

QJackctl (GUI frontend to jack) http://qjackctl.sourceforge.net/

And to compose actual music:
Hydrogen (Drum Machine) http://www.hydrogen-music.org/
Rosegarden (Midi Sequencer) http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/
FluidSynth (Midi softsynth) http://www.fluidsynth.org/
And a frontend to Fluidsynth, Qsynth
http://qsynth.sourceforge.net/qsynth-index.html

Markku.
