MTASC way is not easy when you start swiching from Flash IDE, but after some work you can work without any headache and have a strong workflow.
But it's true that you need to invest some time to understand where are the pitfalls and some people don't want to fight with that...but I think that have to wait the Flash IDE compile times could be even worse that try to master MTASC.

yeah that's right but MTASC still complains about tons of other stuff, code which compiles fine in Flash - and to be honest isn't exactly what I would class as 'bad' code. I also never used strict mode.

You can use V2 Components with MTASC after applying patch to. The issue is patch doesn't allow to compile MX V2 sources in –strict mode. But all compiles as well in default mode.

And what about those of us who do not want or can rewrite the V2 components?

I had to drop MTASC for my projects.

Sad but true. So far it has made my compiling life a misery. Referencing unneeded classes just so my app compiles gets on my nerves. If I can't take a Flash-created app and compile it with MTASC without spending an hour 'fixing' it then that does not improve my workflow.

I know it's a great compiler, I know it's lighting fast and I'd love to use it - tried it on several occasions with several projects. I bet others have had a similar experience.

I know what you're talking about! Tried it by myself once but gave up in frustration after 20 minutes when I've set some obscure variables to Object and it all didn't compile anymore.

It's easier to completely rewrite MX Components rather then make it compiled with –strict option ;)
