And not to forget Adobe anounced that the
AS3/Flex2-compiler will be free and the discision if the compiler will be open
source isn't made yet if I remember right.

here is how i see it. currently the new swf format spec is not availible and the compiler is being given away for free by adobe. so not only is it not possible without major reverse engineering effort at the moment, but there will be an innertia.

Nicolas Canesse has announced to not continue the development of MTASC, so it won't have AS3 support.
