I was a bit sceptic bout haxe but it sure has got it's momentum... Exiting stuff! It opens up the ability to build haXe destkop applications. You can use haXe or AS2 to write the Flash UI and haXe/Neko to access to the OS functionalities (filesystem, database, etc.). The haXe/Neko library already offers a lot of these features by default and can easily be extended. In practice, you create a haXe application in two parts (one Flash, and one Neko) that communicate using the Flash External Interface. The first public Beta will be released in a few days, and will include the SWHX Startup for Windows as well as the sources to the haXe library needed to create one or more windows, display Flash content and handle communications between the two layers. The Mac version should follow shortly after I return from my holiday in about three weeks. Best!
