Joao, To give you an alternative, you could try Oregano : http://www.oregano-server.org/ This a a nice Java XMLSocket pull server with database connectivity and custom ala remoting data exchanges serialisation.
Chat application are well suited for it. I've ported the whole as to as2 and use it on production site now. It's really a nice piece of software.
