Agree with Nicolas.

I don't think mp3 format is in big trouble and there're thousands of
players out there. Same for jpg, ogg, etc. etc. Of course I know
that;s not the case of HTML/CSS.

In my naive world, swf format should go to a
competent-lobby-free-foundation (I mean, just NOT like W3C) and anyone
could write a swf player.

There some platforms in which Adobe, as a company trying to be
profitable, is just not interested. Fair enough. But don't prevent
other people creating a player for it. Let alone half-way-official
implementations of the player like the PSP player.
