I'd like to believe that there are a lot of Flash developers that use Linux exclusively. I do.
I don't know anyone who uses GEdit or Kate. Most Linux coders that I know use Emacs or Vim, but I think some people might use Eclipse, too, if that's more your to your liking. You can do a lot of work without any need for the Flash IDE, but if you have designers creating assets in Flash or you are working with sound files, then the best thing you can do is have them give you a swf with all of the assets in the library, and then you can extract the assets from the swf using the "[Embed]" syntax.
