HI Glenn,

I'm currently reviewing this submission and haven't yet come to any
definition conclusions about the best way to tackle this problem, to
help get a bit further could you explain, say via an example of how
you are using archives and the file path list?  It sounds like you are
actually specifying it as it is directory, which if a correct
assesement is a interesting way of doing things I haven't thought
about before.

W.r.t readObject and image plugins this is an orthogonal issue to the
archive look up and needs a general decision on - if either need to
add another mechansim to archives to handle image etc. file reads or
to change the image plugins etc all to support readObject().  Either
case we'll need to go further than just the changes you've made.
