Hi Robert,
...
and also to view live streams.
This is the bit which is unknown to me right now. I've see a couple
of online tutorials on using ffmpeg to pull in live video streams and
have used it successfully to create an movie file from my webcam,
but... I don't know how to wire it up yet. I haven't spotted any
explanation of this feature at the API level yet.
From what I've seen you can just use an url for the ffmpeg open_file
func (or whatever it is called). The func name is a bit misleading I
believe...
just my 2 cnts...
Regards
Raymond
I know you're busy with the audio
part, so perhaps once that's done that could be the next step. Do you have
the know-how to get that working? How was it done for the QuickTime plugin?
Quicktime has it's own peculiar live video setup, which has lots of
its own caveats and issues. Hopefully we wont' have to jump through
so many hoops to get the ffmpeg plugin to read from live source.
Or perhaps we can ping osg-users to find someone who would know. If not,
then I'd dive in and do it, but getting up to speed on what's required might
take a large amount of time in itself.
Yep, pinging the list for those who are already a bit more experience
with ffmpeg would make sense.
We have a requirement in the next few months where we'd like to be able to
display a live stream from a running camera inside a simulator. So that's my
motivation here (scratching the itch as you say).
No better coding motivation than actually needing the results :-)
Might I suggest you have a look at taking apart the ffmpeg application
code to spot how it reads from webcam.
Here's one of the tutorials I came across, perhaps the command line
options used will provide some clues.
