Also Adobe PDF, 3d & Geo aware format is now a published format and is currently undergoing approval as an ISO standard ( 32000 something or
other )

Adobe PDF is actually shrink-wrapped U3D (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_3D )
You can create 3D PDF from U3D with the movie15 Latex package (see 
http://www.tug.org/texlive/Contents/live/texmf-dist/doc/latex/movie15/movie15.pdf)

The other contenders include 3DXML (dreadful, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3DXML) and DWF.


DWF is IMO more interesting : liberal license (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.dwf ), source code available, full-featured (but lacks kinematics).
