Hi J.P, The biggest problem with getting PBO read back to work efficiently is getting the pixel formats of the buffer and the read back in a form that is supported by the hardware+driver in a way that avoids any local copy and pixel format changes.
Binding FBO's etc. isn't that hard, just a single call, so I don't see much of an issue with duplication. Writing callbacks is an advanced topic too, the OSG can try and hide alot of the complexity but in the end if you want to do something very specific then you'll need to roll your sleeves up and implement it, and accept that you'll need to understand both the OpenGL and OSG functions/classes constraints.
