Thanks Rui, I've merged the changes, but removed the extra comments added as I felt for new programmers it'd make things less clear. FYI, a bug fix to the Viewer setup is what caused this behaviour change - osgViewer now honours the state set up on osg::View rather than overriding it behind the scenes, so if no settings are provided then none are set. osg::StateSet has a function to set the global defaults and this is called by the View constructor, but only visible if you don't apply your own osg::Camera as the example was doing.
