Hi, i think you are asking for the *texture blending* functions. In OSG look at BlendFunc, BlendEquation and BlendColor. Sure there is a combination of the blending factors to achieve the effect you want. See osgblendequation. You can also program a shader of course. Another trick could be applying by default a transparent texture (at a scene node that is parent of your geometry) when you don't have any and apply the texture to your geometry with Override on.
