Every CAVE I've been in has used active stereo (CrystalEyes).  It does
require headtracking, so the view is only correct for one viewer, but
multiple CrystalEyes wearers are not prohibited, they just have a weird
view.

SGI had several stereo CAVEs in the VROOMs at SIGGRAPH 94 (I think)
