Hi All, With past a couple of milestones of late. Back at the start of the year the mailing list popped over 1800 members for the first time, the figure today is 1852, so a little shy of one new member per day. Looks like scene graphs are still of interest to lots of people ;-)
But the more significant milestone was passed with yesterdays OpenSceneGraph-2.3.7 release, with the AUTHORS.txt now containing 302 separate contributors, the first release to have over 300 contributors. This means that the number of contributors is 16% of the user community size, that's 1 in 6 of you, in my book that's a pretty good hit rate. While the bulk of contributors are just minor contributors, one of two bugs/build/typo fixes being typical, each contribution improves the features and quality of this collective work together. I recall around a year or two ago looking at number of contributors vs mailing list size and it was about 1 in 7 developers were contributors, so even though the project has become more mature rather than a core of contributors forming a clique the opposite is happening, the project is actually become more of collective work with a higher likelihood that users becoming contributors. Gotta love open source, its strangely paradoxical and enchanting that just people from right round the world can collectively put together complex software that even large institutions struggle to develop by themselves. Many thanks to all those lovely contributors :-) Robert.
