Hi Cedric, I had same problem before as you see from http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.openscenegraph.user/28101/match=gtopo30+umitBut I couldn't any solution to fix the land and water elevation problem. If you have any change to use different BlueMarble images and elevation data, you can use ftp://veftp.gsfc.nasa.gov/bluemarble/ images and elevations. But with using this data you must do some fixes by using gdal_vrt. If you will use these data and have any problem about creating whole earth database I can help you.
