hi, thanks for the hints, after searching for some of the terms i stumbled over "http://www.openscenegraph.org/projects/osg/wiki/Support/ProgrammingGuide/AnalysingAScenegraph"; which proved very helpful. (maybe someone references it in the tutorial section)
