Actually the VRML plugin in OSG was designed to exactly avoid this
issue. Not to mention that the old VRML plugin that was Coin-based was
not working correctly. Not sure what you would gain by redoing all this
work again :)

Hi Jan,
I'm not prescribing any particular solution. However, I do want to re-iterate that the _current_ Inventor plugin seems to read vrml models just fine (in addition to .iv models). There is no work that would have to be redone.
