a gdalinfo on one of my geotiff files yielded:
Coordinate System is:
LOCAL_CS["unnamed",
UNIT["unknown",1]]
Origin = ([removed],[removed])
(There was more to the result but I can't show that part for security reasons)
I am guessing that this is the source of my problem...
