Hi Andrea, Thanks for the pics. If everything works fine with 3.0.1 I'd suggest just use it rather than try to look into why 2.8.x doesn't work as well. There were lots of improvements to osgVolume between 2.8.x and 3.x.
Recently there have been further improvements to both osgVolume and the dicom plugin, now checked into svn/trunk, so I really would recommend using the latest OSG especially if you are using any of the newer components - it gives you both improved feature, bug fixes and keeps you closer to the next rev of the OSG making it easier to update to the stable releases as they come out. On a personal level, my focus is now the 3.x series, this is where feature improvements and bug fixes will be made. If you find a bug in 2.8.x and it's been fixed in 3.x then I will always recommend upgrading.
