Override redirect is an X11 hint that tells X11 to not allow the window manager to change the window size and positioning from the values asked for my GraphicsWindowX11's window setup code. If you enable Override redirect then you can position windows precisely where you want them without intervention, however, you also loose the window decoration as it's the window manager that creates this for you.
