After playing around a bit I notice that I get some triangles in clockwise 
order. 
If you replace the first 3 vectors of osg::Vec3 myCoords[] with

// note in clockwise order.
osg::Vec3(-1.11644, 9.18133e-09, -0.716827),
osg::Vec3(-0.95165, -2.15188e-09, -0.840418),
osg::Vec3(-1.12056, -2.15188e-09, -0.840418),

one sample triangle is dark red on both sides, the other on is bright red as it 
should be.
