You were right: the problem was broader than OSG. The fix was to modify
/etc/X11/xorg.conf so that these 2 lines were in the "Files" section:
Code:
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/nvidia/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
EndSection
