StackExchange seems geared twoards and dominated Q&A discussions, Quite often we just have discussions like this thread. It doesn't seem like a natural fit for a community, but I can see how it might have role but I don't see it replacing a mailing list/forum. > Regarding user registration - I never really understood the point of having > your full name being a mandatory thing for the forum sign up. In general forum tend to treat discussions and naming a little different than mailing list users, what grates in one does less so in the other, but as we have a dual system we have to try and equalize things. The real name requirement is to stop users coming up with inhuman names for themselves. We are a community and conversing like humans do in the real world is part of what keeps discussion civil, friendly and positive. I would like for the community to be is what effectively becomes a family of friends online. It's perfectly possible to use psuedo names but they really need to human in style, sadly many forum users thinkmyusernameisreallycool and thatthemorestupidandimaturemynamethecoolerIam but inrealitysuchnamesjustmakeyoucomeacrossasabitofaidot. These issue might seem trifling to someone just popping in and out of the community but when you community support is a big part of working life people being lazy and immature is really grating. It really doesn't inspire one to do free support when others aren't even making a small effort to be gracious. I say this from a personal level, but I'm sure it makes a difference to others in the community that might give more than they take from the community. Cheers, Robert. _______________________________________________ osg-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openscenegraph.org/listinfo.cgi/osg-users-openscenegraph.org
