Hey Nick,

TerraVista might be good for GIS and big databases, so is Creator (to a certain extent) for models.
But looking at the price you don't want to use them unless the customer insists ;-)

Noone here mentioned TerraVista from Presagis - the most sofisticated terrain tool, also TerraTools from TerraSim, and Creator from Presagis for content creation

Hi Daniel,

I would like to mention our commercial database generation system Trian3DBuilder.
http://www.triangraphics.de/?q=en/produkte/Trian3d-Builder

Trian3DBuilder is exporting to OSG format natively. Fully automatic roads generation from real-world data (OSM, NAVTEQ RDF etc.) with AI informations (OpenDRIVE) is one strength of our software. It offers a complete generation tool chain with SDK in a single tool. Taking into account the prices in the (driving) simulation industries, Trian3D Builder is very affordable, but it is certainly not at all a consumer product.

As addition a simple GIS tool like Global Mapper is of help to set up the data. Internally we are mainly using Blender and export to OpenFlight using a Python script (I think), which is available.

Stephan

Hi all out there

I am trying to build content for our OSG-based driving simulation engine. I have some complete terrains (terrain, buildings, streets, vegetation, etc) that were build (externally) on a terravista based toolchain.

I was searching the forum to find out what tools people use to generate such content showing urban or natural areas, with cities, villages etc. There are some discussions about similar subjects...

There are some osg based tools like osgEdit (outdated), osgExplore (view only?), Remo3D (commercial, but focused on models, not terrain), Blender (export issues?), etc.

I thought it would be worth a thread where people just line up their tool chain and what they use for what, starting from generating terrain, to placing roads, buildings, vegetation, optimizing, exporting, etc.

There you go!

Regards
Daniel
