Hi, i just checked out revision 14442 from http://svn.openscenegraph.org/osg/OpenSceneGraph/trunk and build it cleanly on my Kubuntu 14.04 machine. This time i used the original OSG source tree without any modification and using all 3rd party libs from the system. When i run osgconv on cow.osg to generate the cow.osgx file it runs without errors and the resulting xml file contains the version 115 and OSG 3.3.3 as generator. When i load the cow.osgx file in either osgviewer or osgconv the previously mentioned errors appear. Might it be possible you send me the cow.osgx file to check if your generated xml file works on my machine?
