Chris,

I've found dxt5 compresses the most without any noticeable artifacts. I
assume it performs better compressed, but I'm not sure.

myfile.ive = 117MB      loadtime=2.8
myfile-dxt5.ive = 26MB  loadtime=0.4

Subject: [osg-users] S3/DXT compression -- CPU cost?

   I've been told that pre-compressing textures into one of the S3/DXT types
is a major win, versus storing them in an conventional format and
compressing them before download.

   I am assuming the DXT type compression is done on the host CPU, correct?
Anyone have any metrics for this?
