We missed (what I think is) a question in my original post that may
(heh... or may not) be of general interest...  I'll repost if you don't mind:

Offhand, do you offer any words of warning along the lines of "you can use any
Object's UserData area, EXCEPT note that osg uses it in [some place] to hold
[some thing] and you cannot stomp on that, lest [some bad thing happen]" ?
