This is a transition.  Currently OSG, Producer and OpenThreads use a build system based on a set of predefined 'make' definitions and 'make' rules.  Each project has its own version of this which is a bit of a maintenance headache.  An aspect of this was brought to the lists attention recently when a request was made to keep some variables consistent between builds.

What DWMake does is consolidate all of the makedefs and makerules into a single package for easier maintenance.

But I don't think this is shooting myself in the foot any more than it would be to shoot yourself in the foot to require users to install CMake or SCONS or another build system in order to build your project.

I admit it is a little messy right now, but it will be cleaned up, again, this is just a transition and part of what you accept when you build from latest CVS.

Isn't the maintainer of Producer shooting into his own foot by forcing
everyone to install right another Make tool just in order to build
Producer ? I guess say people might ease their life if they simply stay
with the lastest 'working' snapshot by pulling '-D 20061113' ....
