The current MacOSX build comes with a prebuilt gdal library, if that
helps.

Hello All,
I'm trying to move my dev system over to Mac OS X from Gentoo, as I
won't be able to deploy to Linux for an upcoming project.
I've done some OSG work on Mac OS X before, and either used the
binaries, or the XCode project to install it. I need to get GDAL
and COIN installed too, for VRML, ESRI and GML, and got a bit
confused on how to enable this via XCode. So I've switched to
installing via make, but have a few queries...
I've installed GDAL and COIN via darwinports, GDAL needs giflib,
but its seems that OSG needs ungif - what's the best way forward? I
have them both activated at present, and OSG is building fine, but
I'm imagining I'll run into problems...?
I'm also trying to clear out previous installs of OSG, will OSG
installed via make, still produce Frameworks? Or will it be more
like my Gentoo box? Are they both routes to the same install? Or is
there a bit of Schizophrenia here - something Mac OS X developers
get used to...
I wish I had a Gentoo box in my dome....
