Mr Osfield: We are the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering In Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LESMARS) in Wuhan University, at present, one of our interested research areas is 3D modeling and real-time rendering based on the large scenes (for example, cities, districts, marine) about the spatial information. we find that OSG is such a very useful tool that we are actively studying OSG and its advanced technology to render greater scope of 3D terrain.
At present, China has a number of groups or individuals are using it. We want to let more people understand it, use it and then improve it. So that it may become more perfect. However, because of some questions (earthquake, etc.), the domestic staffs are interrupted to visit the official website of OSG, which has brought us a definite impact. Therefore, we plan to make a web site mirror and have prepared a Chinese domain name www.openscenegraph.com.cn. Meanwhile, we will translate some of the key documents into Chinese, and establish the Chinese community to discuss the OSG, which, we believe, is convenient for Chinese to understand the powerful capability of OSG and facilitate the use of domestic users. What's more, we will do some further improvements of OSG in the field of Geographic using the results of our lab, and we will make every effort to solve the problem of the huge amount of geospatial data in the fast 3D modeling and visualization and real-time rendering.
