This really doesn't sound like something related to the command line, but inter process communication, this is whole topic well beyond the scope of the core OSG. google will no doubt present you with lots of leads.

I've seen this can be done using the process function in QT, but is there another method which doesn't require QT? The reason for this is I have a set of numbered images, but now I want to access mencoder to convert them to a .avi file and then display it within the same OSG based code.
