Ahhh, there's a simpler route: download a new version of osgeo4w-setup.exe from the website and use that.

Now verified. Same problem exists for package gdal15 and probably others. The solution, as indicated in ticket #101, is to repack the archives using msys tar & bzip2 and update the setup.ini md5 sums accordingly.
