#451: Matplotlib crash in savefig (png)

The version of matplotlib included in the 64-bit installer (matplotlib
version 1.3.1) causes python to crash when savefig is applied to save a
png. This happens both from the GUI and when applied programatically. Does
not happen e.g. for a pdf or jpeg, so seemingly a defect in a (lib)png
dependency. Using backend "Qt4Agg".
