ECF is not yet compliant with the latest specification, so is a little
behind CXF in that respect.

One clarification...there are two relevant parts to the 4.2 spec: Remote Services (chap 13 in core spec), and Remote Service Admin (chap 122 in enterprise spec). ECF *has* fully implemented Remote Services (as of ECF 3.3/Helios release), but has not yet completed RSA. As Neil says, however, the ECF RSA impl is under active development as we speak (by myself and others): https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=324215. My eta for release of ECF's RSA impl is ECF 3.5...~Feb 1, 2011.

Note not all remote services use cases require (or even need) remote service admin...so just having support for remote services (chap 13) does allow usage for many use cases.

Since I'm the ECF project lead, my own comparison of ECF and CXF would be biased...but here are some postings WRT ECF-specific characteristics and features...in case this is useful [1-3].

However the ECF team are actively working
on making it compliant and are fixing problems, so I expect it to
overtake CXF very soon.

Incidentally if you are prepared to consider a commercial solution,
Paremus is building a highly performant and spec-compliant
implementation. I have tested an early-access copy of this
implementation and it works very well.

The Eclipse Communications Framework project (ECF)[0] has support for the

Hi,

We have been trying to develop some applications with distributed OSGI
using CXF DOSGI. However, we have faced some problems with that. Do
you have any recommendations for any framework to use for Distributed
OSGIs?

We have a OSGI environment in Virgo that needs to use a service on
another Virgo that is connected via a SOCKS5 proxy.
