Group,

This list published the "Heavy Metal Mercenary" article written by Rolling
Stone back in September. This is a followup.

Wolf was a good man, and his wife and children will miss him dearly, as will
many friends, including me.

He was a colorful one, but absolutely dedicated to not only his missions, but
his family.

I had just recived an email from him the day before the ambush. I received
another one from his wife a couple of days later informing me of the
circumstances. I was shocked, but looked at available OSINT into the ambush.
Things did not look right. Iraq is a magnet for random acts of violence, but
this one is different.

If any list members have in-theater access or information and can shed light on
the circumstances, please contact me. If you have the access, you will know why
this ambush does not look right. I have been personaly assured by certain folks
that they would very much like to "make things right".

Semper Fi,
JG

      Fallen Soldier

In September. ROLLING STONE profiled Wolf Weiss. One of the most
colorful characters ever to appear in our pages ["Heavy Metal Mercenary," RS
958]. A tattoo-covered aspiring rock star.

Weiss made his living as one of the thousands of for-profit
contractors providing security in Iraq. "There's only a few things in this
world I can do really, really well," Weiss told ROLLING STONE'S Tish Durkin.
"War is one.

On November 14th, shortly after sunset, Weiss was killed in an
ambush near Mosul. He was leading a convoy on the way to pick up two U.S.
Embassy officials and transport them to Baghdad. The firefight lasted several
minutes; thousands of rounds of ammunition were expelled. When the shooting
stopped; Weiss was dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Weiss was familiar with danger; before leaving the Marines in 1999
to pursue his rock & roll dreams, he had served as a hostage rescuer, a combat
diver, a paratrooper and a sniper. Still, his death highlights the risks
facing private contractors: To date, more than eighty have been killed in Iraq,
suffering more casualties than any U.S. ally. In a letter posted on
www.wolfweiss.com, his wife, Kitt, writes, "I wish and pray God would give him
back to me." Weiss is survived by Kitt and their three children. He was
thirty-six years old.
