British terrorism suspect attempts suicide Reuters One of the 10 men placed under the British government's new partial house arrest scheme for suspected terrorists was admitted to hospital at the weekend after taking an overdose of pills, a court heard yesterday. Mahmoud Abu Rideh, a Jordanian-born Palestinian, was one of 17 foreign terrorism suspects held by Britain without trial for several years under emergency post-September 11, 2001, laws that expired earlier this month after being ruled unlawful by judges. He and nine others are now held under "control orders" under new laws enacted this month. They have been electronically tagged, confined to their homes for 12 hours a day and may not meet people without permission from the authorities. ------------------------ Yahoo!
