Secret underground Parchin site called key to Iran's enrichment program An Iranian exile said last week that Iran is conducting nuclear weapons development activities at a new underground military facility known as Parchin. U.S. intelligence agencies believe that the Parchin complex, located 19 miles southeast of Tehran, houses key elements of Iran's covert uranium enrichment program. Tehran has refused requests by the International Atomic Energy Agency to inspect the facility. "Iran has completed an underground tunnel-like facility in Parchin, which is now engaged in laser enrichment," Alireza Jafarzadeh, an Iranian exile who has reported accurately in the past about hidden atomic facilities in Iran, told Reuters. "This underground site is camouflaged and built in an area of Parchin that deals with the chemical industry," he said, quoting "well-placed sources inside the Iranian regime." IAEA chief Mohammed El Baradei told France's Le Monde newspaper: "It is true that for years Iran did not tell us it was importing technologies for its enrichment program, and that was a violation of the NPT." "The situation has notably improved today: the Iranians are fulfilling their obligations, more or less," he said. ------------------------ Yahoo!
