Mexico terrorist threat

The danger of Al Qaida terrorists using the porous Mexican border to
enter the United States was highlighted last week by a report that an
organized crime gang is working with the Islamist terror group.
"El Cuervo," a Mexican newspaper in Tapachula, near the Guatemalan
border, quoted Carlos Estuardo Pavon, a leader of the MS-13 Mara
Salvatrucha gang in Central and South America, as saying "There are
people in Central America connected to Al Qaida, waiting to get into
Mexico and other countries, but the Mara Salvatrucha decided to
distance itself from any action they might take. In fact, there is no
connection between us and them."

Estuardo, 24, is a Guatemalan and is currently in a Mexican prison in
Tapachula. He is one of the 117 Maras and 60 members of Barrio 18 who
comprise the "La Ceiba" cell inside the prison.

Estuardo also denied any links to the Spanish separatist group, ETA.
