Yemeni ambassador to Syria defects, reveals Al Qaida penetration Yemen's ambassador to Syria, Ahmad Abdallah al-Hasani, has defected to Britain and has revealed details of Al Qaida penetrations of the Yemeni government. Al-Hasani was commander of the Yemeni navy. He disclosed that Al Qaida had financial, technical and human resources in Yemen that facilitated the bombing of the USS Cole in October 2000. He told reporters in London that officers loyal to Al Qaida still serve in the Yemeni military, political security agency and republican guard units, and have assisted the Islamist terror group. Al-Hasani said one high-ranking colonel in the republican guard participated in the Cole bombing, which killed 17 sailors and wounded scores more. ------------------------ Yahoo!
