Saddam questioned on mass killings Saddam Hussein was questioned by investigators about the killings of scores of villagers in 1982 following an attempted assassination, according to Iraqi press reports. The special tribunal on Iraq's former leaders said Saddam was behind the killing of villagers in the village of Al Dujayl near Baghdad in 1982. The attack followed an attempt to bomb Saddam's motorcade as it passed through the village. Saddam reportedly said that he was the target of an assassination attempt but denied ordering the mass killings. He said official organs launched an investigation that was typical after a head of state was attacked. Asked if he knew Iraqi leaders Taha Yasin Ramadan and Barzan al- Tikriti have told investigators he ordered the killings, Saddam replied: "No. No. I do not know they said this. But if Taha Yasin Ramadan and Barzan did say this and signed it, then what they say is true and I am responsible in any case." Saddam signed the transcript of the session "president of the Republic of Iraq." -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
