Saudi's U.S. ambassador reported in seclusion

Saudi Arabia's long-time ambassador to the Untied States, Prince
Bandar Bin-Sultan Bin-Abd-al-Aziz, is in seclusion and has not
worked for weeks.
The London Al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper quoted Arab diplomats as
saying Bandar was "in seclusion."
The report also stated that Bandar had submitted his resignation but
stayed on to escort Crown Prince Abdullah to President Bush's ranch
in Texas in April.
July 5: Sudden departure of longtime Saudi ambassador to U.S. called
resignation, vacation

The Saudi government denied Bandar has resigned and said he is on
vacation.
Bandar did not participate in talks in Riyadh with Secretary of
State Condoleezza Rice and is said to be upset at not being
appointed to the post of Saudi intelligence minister, the report
said.
The newspaper quoted sources close to Bandar as saying that he was
frustrated after the January resignation of intelligence chief
Prince Nawaf Bin-Abd-al-Aziz. When Prince Abdallah did not offer
Bandar the intelligence post, he realized his prospects for a
cabinet position were slim and he went into seclusion.
U.S. sources say Bandar may be viewed as having been too close to
the U.S. government and thus may be opposed by more hardline Saudi
officials.
