Politics Jul 15 2005 3:51PM Alkhanov against using the term "Chechen terrorism" GROZNY. July 15 (Interfax) - Chechen President Alu Alkhanov has called on politicians and officials to avoid using the terms "Chechen terrorism" and "Chechen terrorists." "It has never been a secret to me that there are people of numerous nationalities among terrorists. But I have never said 'Dagestani terrorists', 'Ossetian terrorists' or 'Russian terrorists' and have never used any other ethnic descriptions together with the word terrorism," Alkhanov told journalists in Grozny on Friday. "I have known for a long time that terrorists have no nationality and it does not matter to them where terrorist attacks are staged - in Chechnya or other regions, London or Paris. Bloodshed and the fact that people suffer and live in a state of fear and panic are the most important things for them," Alkhanov said. The president said he is surprised that the term "Chechen guerrilla group leaders" is being used today. "There is no leadership and there are no groups today. Almost all leaders of illegal armed groups have been detained or killed. Only a few of them remain at large, but law enforcement agencies will capture them," he said. -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
